On 24th July 2005, the second race of round 3 of the Formula Abarth series took place at Magione. Starting from pole was a young Italian, Davide Rigon, in a car run by Europa Corse. The race was run over 25 laps of 2.507 kilometre Umbrian circuit and Rigon got a perfect getaway to lead from Andrea Caldarelli and Giuseppe Terranova, crossing the line for the first time with a one second advantage.

On lap 10, an aggressive Terranova passed Caldarelli, but by then Rigon was well out of reach, driving steadily to the flag to win by four seconds. At the end of the season, Rigon was champion, staking his claim on moving up the motor sport ranks. Having also raced in GP2, Rigon is one of the test drivers for Scuderia Ferrari and this year, he also drives a 458 Italia GT2 in the World Endurance Championship for AF Corse.
