On 4th May 2003, the F2003-GA finally made its debut, taking pole for the Spanish Grand Prix in the hands of Michael Schumacher. The German posted a 1.17.762, with Rubens Barrichello second to make it an all-Ferrari front row. It was Michael’s 53rd pole and the 162nd for Ferrari. In the race, the German got away in the lead, while the most aggressive of his pursuers was Fernando Alonso, who after forcing Ralf Schumacher into making a mistake, managed to pass Barrichello and even put the leader under some pressure.

However, Michael took the flag 5”7 ahead of Alonso and 18” in front of Barrichello. The German, who was involved in an accident with championship leader Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Pizzonia in a Jaguar, was now just four points off the lead.
