On 22nd April 1951, the Ospedaletti circuit hosted the fifth San Remo Grand Prix. Entered in the race, over 90 laps of the 3.380 kilometre track were three Ferrari 375s, in the hands of Alberto Ascari, Luigi Villoresi and Dorino Serafini. There were two other Ferraris on the grid, a 212 F1 run by the Ecurie Espadon team for Swiss driver Rudi Fischer and a privately entered 125 F1 for the Englishman Peter Whitehead.
The race produced a thrilling head to head between Ascari and Serafini. The podium was an all-Ferrari affair, as third place went to Fischer, although he was two laps down.
