14th April 2013 was the date for last year’s Chinese Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso took his Ferrari to third on the grid, with Felipe Massa in fifth, while pole position went to Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes. The race was affected by the short life of the tyres, but the Ferrari F138 and its Spanish driver were in a league of their own that day. Twice, Fernando found himself ahead of Sebastian Vettel and twice he dropped him without too much difficulty. The last to fall to the unstoppable Spaniard was Kimi Raikkonen in the Lotus, who came home second, over ten seconds down.
On the third step of the podium was Hamilton, who finished ahead of Vettel, Button and Massa. After this race, the championship was very close, with Vettel on 52 points leading from Raikkonen on 49, Fernando on 43 and Hamilton on 40. However, as the season went on, the reigning champion in the Red Bull gradually pulled away from his pursuers.
