On 22nd March 2006, Luca Badoer took to the track at Fiorano for a busy test session aimed at development of Bridgestone’s rain tyres. The weather was awful, the best it could be for a demanding test.
Badoer completed 62 laps with a best time of 1.03.198. The next day, testing continued with Badoer joined by the great Michael Schumacher. That year, the German was involved in a season long chase of Fernando Alonso for the title, but his hopes went up in smoke at Suzuka.
It was not even a decade ago and yet, talk of testing now sounds prehistoric as, even with all the major technical changes for this year, cars get a miserly 12 days of pre-season testing.
