Nine years ago today, a few minutes after 11 o’clock, the F2005, Ferrari’s challenger for the 2005 Formula 1 World Championship, was unveiled at the Nuova Logistica building at Fiorano. The car was tasked with hanging onto the two world titles won the previous year by Scuderia Ferrari and Michael Schumacher with the F2004. The team began the season with the F2004M, while the F2005 made its debut at the third race in Bahrain. The car did not do so well, mainly because of a change of regulation which meant tyres could not be changed during a race. The only victory came in the United States Grand Prix in Indianapolis, when the Michelin runners pitted and stopped at the end of the formation lap. Schumacher was first past the flag ahead of team-mate Rubens Barrichello, with Portugal’s Tiago Monteiro in the Jordan.
