On 20th November 2012, Fernando Alonso had the honour of ringing the bell that signifies the end of business at the New York Stock Exchange. The Scuderia Ferrari driver pressed the button that sounds the historic bell at a ceremony to mark the Santander Bank’s significant donation of US$250,000 to the Red Cross, for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, which had hit the Big Apple a few weeks earlier. “It’s a privilege for me to be here on such an occasion as this,” said Fernando to the media present at the NYSE. “It was odd to be part of something that I’ve often seen on television! This is a good day for Santander and for the Red Cross, because it means that something really useful can be done for those who have suffered because of this storm.”
