On 25th September 2011, the JMW Motorsport 458 GT2 won the Estoril 6 Hours, the fifth and final round of that year’s Le Mans Series, thanks to Robert Bell and James Walker. Having started from pole, the Maranello car came home ahead of two factory Porsches and its sister car entered by AF Corse, driven by Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander. The Italian team therefore picked up the team title as well as the drivers’ one, with the crew made up of Giancarlo Fisichella and Gianmaria Bruni, even though they had to retire from the final race of the season in the early stages, because of a technical problem.

That season’s GTE-Pro class of the LMS was dominated by the 458 GT2, which took five wins from five races. Walker and Bell had already been victorious in the first round at Paul Ricard, while Fisichella-Bruni won in Spa and Silverstone, with the Melo-Vilander duo triumphant at Imola.
